Why are people in small towns so ignorant?

I was raised in a city until age 10 then I moved to a rural town 50 miles away. I am now 20 and I hate it here. Everyone is nosey like all my neighbors sit around and gossip and spread lies, none of them seem very smart, always cussing, getting drunk, partying all the time. The girls I went to high school with are getting pregnant, the guys go to jail. I hate that everyone is basically white, no other races
